AmeriHealth's Pharmacy Management Company: FutureScripts
Effective October 1, 2006, AmeriHealth will begin to administer your prescription drug benefit through a new company they created called FutureScripts. It is AmeriHealth’s position that they can provide better management of costs by:
 |
Developing contracts directly with retail pharmacies |
| Negotiating aggressive pricing with the drug manufacturers |
| Implementing steeply discounted pricing for generic drugs |
| Taking a comprehensive approach to cost control by looking at medical and prescription together |
The transition to FutureScripts is expected to have almost no impact on the way you use your prescription drug plan. There are, however, some important questions you may have about this change:
What role will FutureScripts play in handling my prescription benefit?
Just like Caremark, FutureScripts is a Pharmacy Benefits Manager that will review and modify the formulary, pay claims, and handle all other administrative aspects of the plan.
Will there be any changes to my prescription drug benefit?
No. Your prescription drug copays, deductible, and/or coinsurance will be exactly the same.
Will there be any changes to the prescription drug formulary?
No, the formulary will be the same which means that you will continue to pay the same copay amounts for the
prescriptions you are currently taking. The formulary, however, will be updated more frequently as new generic and
brand name drugs become available.
How will mail-order prescriptions be handled?
The current pharmacy vendor, Caremark, will continue to handle the mail order program.
Will I have to go to a new pharmacy?
Most likely you will not have to find a different pharmacy. The FutureScripts network has over 56,000 retail pharmacies,
including all of the major chains. If you happen to be using a pharmacy not in the network, AmeriHealth will send you a
notice along with a directory of participating pharmacies.
Will I receive a new ID card?
Yes, new ID cards with the FutureScripts name will be mailed prior to the October 1, 2006 effective date. Please
remember to present this card to your pharmacy in order to avoid any claims problems. In the meantime, you can
continue to use your current card through September 30, 2006.
Do I need to get a new prescription for any refills remaining at the retail pharmacy?
No, you do not need a new prescription as long as your pharmacy is in the FutureScripts network. You will need to
present your new ID card for any refills processed after October 1, 2006.
