Horizon Prescription Drug Policy
The prescription drug benefit under your Horizon Blue Cross plan allows for a 30-day supply to be filled at the pharmacy for one copay. Prior to February, Horizon had been somewhat lenient in enforcing this benefit. As a result, many clients were able to fill a 90-day supply for one copay at the pharmacy.
You may have employees who are now experiencing some changes at the pharmacy. If an individual presents a prescription for a 90-day supply, the pharmacist will charge three copays as opposed to one. It is important for your employees to understand that their drug benefit has not changed. Rather, Horizon is now accurately applying the terms of your contract.
There have not been any changes to the mail order program, so employees who take long-term, maintenance medications can still take advantage of the lower copays for a 90-day supply.
